Speed Mentoring

Join us Sunday evening for an informal mentoring double-dose!  Speed Mentoring is a way to get valuable input from multiple experts in many scientific fields who have already “been there, done that.” It’s also a good way to get a taste of a mentoring relationship for anyone unsure about committing to one. Obtaining information from many others who have experience in the field that you’re currently working in (or struggling in) has immense value.

ABRF Master Mentors, Julie Auger (UC-Davis), Phil Hockberger (Northwestern), Nancy Fisher (UNC), Sherry Thornton (CCHMC), Claudius Mundoma (FSU), Andy Chitty (OHSU), and Sheenah Mische (NYU) – alongside many other skilled mentors– will be on hand to be paired up with mentees– those looking for help in a specific area of their career– for several 10-15 minute encounters.  The mentors will stay in one location while the mentees rotate through the mentors and ask their questions. It’s best for mentees to have questions prepared, but coordinators Heather Brewer (Pacific-NW National Labs) and Luellen Fletcher (UPenn) will provide guiding topics as well.

Speed Mentoring is a fun, interactive way to network and meet experts in the scientific community that you may not have had an opportunity to cross paths with. People often come away from a speed mentoring session with new friends, colleagues and mentor-mentee relationships. Sign up to be a Mentee OR a Mentor – we value both! Bring your business cards, your questions and experience a whirlwind of intellectually stimulating conversation in Speed Mentoring!
