Technology Showcase: Miltenyi Biotec Inc. – Tissue Clarity and Light Sheet Microscopy Showcase

Speakers: Sam A. Golden, Ph. D. Assistant Professor, University of Washington Department of Biological Structure
Christina Pyrgaki, Ph. D. Research Support Specialist, The Rockefeller University, Biological Imaging Resource Center

Host: Byron Hartman, Ph. D. Micropscopy Product Manager, Miltenyi Biotec

3D imaging of optically cleared tissues with light sheet microscopy is a powerful and rapidly advancing technology.  A variety of effective clearing methods are available to render tissue transparent while preserving fluorescent signals.  Specialized optics and instrumentation has enabled imaging of whole organs and even whole mice at cellular resolution.  This workshop will feature presentations by two expert users of 3D light sheet microscopy.  Dr. Golden will discuss how his lab at UW applies tissue clearing and light sheet microscopy to a behavioral neuroscience research program involving imaging and analysis of whole mouse brain.  Dr. Pyrgaki will share insights resulting from her experience supporting a large user base utilizing light sheet microscopy applications at a Rockefeller University core facility.
