There is No “I” in Core: Scientists and Administrators Talk

Biomedical research is a complex, multifactorial undertaking requiring diverse skills.  Academic institutions have invested in educational programs, facilities, and enhanced resources to drive progress and advancements.  Critically needed, however, is an emphasis on creating and sustaining multidisciplinary research teams. It is through the power of many and a diverse approach to solving problems that we will realize lasting solutions.  The ABRF Mission statement “Accelerating Breakthroughs in Scientific Discovery”

captures the impact ABRF and its members make as team scientists in support of bioresearch.  The ABRF experience is built on shared values, including promoting a collaborative community that cultivates professional development and technological innovation.  But how do we bring this back to our own institutions and achieve the correct balance between autonomous working, teamwork and collaboration and play to each person’s individual strengths?

Dr. Dani Chesson partners with Robert Steen and Andrew Vinard to bring Design Thinking to our ABRF community. In this interactive session, we will explore

  • the power of empathy to enable collaboration and build trust across disciplines
  • the importance of unpacking assumptions to foster diversity and inclusive conversations
  • the “how to” of co-creating solutions

Learn how we can leverage key concepts of human-centered design to navigate conversations, collaborate across differences, and create quality outcomes for all.
